Research areas and Interest
Poultry Breeding and Genetics (Improvement of brown-shelled (RIR) Layer germplasm through specialized selection and breeding programme for developing tinted-shelled commercial layer strains; Development of multi-coloured, brown-shelled dual purpose strains for backyard/ rural poultry production with better production profile- leading to development of two strains: CARI Debendra & CARI Sonali; Improvement of white-shelled (WLH- AICRP) Layer germplasm through specialized selection and breeding programme; Maintenance, evaluation and conservation of important breeds of ducks for developing superior duck varieties for augmenting rural duck production). His Area of Specialization: Poultry Breeding.

Teaching and Research Guidance

  • Dr. Bais instructs courses in Poultry Breeding & Genetics (Selection methods) to PG/ Ph.D. students of IVRI Deemed University, Izatnagar. He has been involved in UG, PG/ Ph.D. teaching of different Agricultural Universities (JNKVV, Jabalpur; IGKV, Raipur & GBPUAT, Pantnagar) for various courses viz. Principles of Animal Breeding,  Livestock Breeding System,  Avian Genetics & Breeding,  Selection Methods in Animal Breeding, Breeding of Laboratory Animals, Fundamentals of Avian Genetics, Introduction to Poultry Breeding, Selection methods and Poultry Production & Management.
  • He also serves as Chairman (Major Advisor/ Guide), Student Advisory Committee in the major programme of Animal Genetics and Breeding and Poultry Science (Poultry Breeding). So for, he has guided 5 M.V.Sc. and 1 Ph.D. (under Guidance) scholars as Major Advisor and has been the Member of Student Advisory Committee of several students of Poultry Science and Animal Genetics & Breeding disciplines.
