Poultry production has been well recognized in providing employment, upliftment of rural economy and nutritional security. It is heartening to note that poultry sector in India has witnessed a rapid growth over the last four decades and emerged as the 3rd largest egg (67 billion no.) and 5th largest poultry meat (3.2 million tons) producer globally. The Central Avian Research Institute (CARI), Izatnagar, Bareilly (U.P.), since its inception on the 2nd November, 1979 along with its Regional Centre at Bhubaneswar, has been playing a vital role by providing R & D and technological support for augmenting diversified poultry production in the country. Development and propagation of superior stocks of diversified poultry species such as quail, turkey, guinea fowl, desi (indigenous) fowl, duck, chicken layer and broiler along with impoved package of their feeding, management and health care practices as well as evolving innovative poultry processing technology for preservation, valueaddition, by-product utilization, quality assurance and dissemination of proven technologies to stakeholders in both public and private sectors have been the hallmarks of the institute’s R & D activities. Over the years, this Institute has also emerged as a leading centre for Post-graduate education in Poultry Science. Besides, it offers consultancy and training in the diverse areas of poultry production, processing and marketing for capacity building of stakeholders. The perspective plan (Vision 2050) document brought out by the institute reflects well-defined R&D priorities and thrust areas to respond to the present and future challenges faced by the poultry sector and promote diversified poultry production. The institute has been responsive and sensitive to the needs of stakeholders in both commercial and small-scale rural poultry sectors. It is vigilant to changes taking place at national and international levels in the poultry sector to address emerging issues/concerns and serves as a referral centre for all aspects of poultry value-chain in the country. The institute showcases its activities and salient achievements in this updated website to promote exchange of ideas, transfer of technology, strong linkage and collaboration to tackle the challenges for sustained growth of Indian poultry sector.
