All India Co-ordinated Research Project (AICRP) |
|
Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) initiated All India Co-ordinated Research Project (AICRP) on poultry breeding during IV five-year plan, with the sole objective of attaining self-sufficiency in high yielding commercial germplasms in the country. The programme was carried out at the erstwhile Poultry Research Division (now CARI) as its Lead centre and 14 cooperating centres located in different State Agricultural Universities (SAUs). On the recommendation of first workshop of AICRP on Poultry Breeding held at Jabalpur in 1970, the technical programme of AICRP was formulated with multidisciplinary approach for improvement of poultry for meat and egg production. The coordinated research activity carried out at this institute resulted in the development and release of high yielding commercial broiler stock namely B-77 and commercial layer stock, namely ILI-80.Subsequently, the Coordinating unit of AICRP was shifted to Hyderabad in 1988 and this institute has since been serving as one of the cooperating centres each for layer and broiler chickens under which elite commercial stock of layer viz., white egger CARI-Priya and multicoloured commercial broiler stock, viz., CARIBRO-Dhanraja have been developed and propagated across the country for commercial exploitation.
